Williams Lake RCMP responded to 297 calls between Thursday, June 12 to 19, 137 more calls than the previous week.
Among the incidents highlighted in the RCMP's weekly report were five instances of men found to be breaching conditions or who had outstanding warrants. On Friday, June 13, a man who has been wanted since October 2024 was arrested and held for court.
Disturbances involving intoxication and/or theft
The release also mentions four instances involving intoxicated individuals allegedly caught stealing or causing disturbances who were taken into custody.
One man was reported to be staggering into traffic in the middle of the night on Friday, June 13 and was found to be intoxicated and unable to care for himself. He was arrested and kept in cells. RCMP also responded to a call about an intoxicated person knocking on the wrong house door. The person was arrested and held in cells until sober.
There were two calls involving individuals allegedly stealing from local stores, one in which the person was confirmed as intoxicated, and one officer located suspected stolen property while on a proactive patrol.
Other disturbances
Three disturbances are also highlighted in the release but do not specify whether the individuals involved were intoxicated.
On Monday, June 16 a person was arrested after allegedly threatening people with a weapon outside of a business on the 300 block of Proctor Street. They were released with a future court date and conditions.
Another person was arrested on the same day after police responded to a call about a man yelling and claiming his cats were being mistreated. "Police and determined his cats were safe but he was not due to his angry demeanour," reads the release.
On Friday, June 19, officers attended the Stampede Grounds where an "unwanted person was spraying staff with a hose."
Traffic incidents
Six road related incidents were also noted in the report. Four are confirmed to involve an impaired driver, with driving prohibitions issued ranging from 24 hours to 90 days and vehicle seizures of up to 30 days. In one instance, the driver backed their vehicle into a parked car.
A fifth incident which occurred on the same day as this last one, Saturday, June 14, is believed to have involved speeding and alcohol following an investigation. The driver was taken to hospital after a single vehicle rollover on Highway 20.
The sixth traffic incident noted in the release involved a motorcycle observed travelling at a speed of 127 kilometres per hour in a 60 kilometre per hour zone. The bike was seized and the driver was issued a violation ticket.
Other responses
The release also highlights frontline officers assisting BC Emergency Health Services with getting an elderly person medical assistance, and youth were arrested on Wednesday, June 18 as suspects of vandalism in a local park.
"Police utilized alternative measures and had the youth fix their mistake with the support of their guardians."
