Shortly after returning home from an extended South Pacific winter vacation, I developed what turned out to be a life-threatening bout of pneumonia which saw me spending 10 days of intense treatment in the acute treatment ward of the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital.
My purpose in writing is to acknowledge just how fortunate I was to be put in the hands of so many dedicated selfless health professionals during my battle from those who monitored my progress, administered my medication, cleansed my body and fed me from the very beginning through to my discharge on April 10.
Many times, we take for granted the health care system we have available to us without fully appreciating the seemingly tireless dedication of those who work at the hospital oft times under extremely demanding conditions and pressure filled situations. Those occasions in my room where treatment was administered and comfort needed, it was done professionally by the most experienced to the trainees with a healthy and truly positive attitude toward the patient.
While I still have a long journey ahead to realize a full recovery, I want to acknowledge with heartfelt thanks the many that looked after me 24/7 I am truly grateful to all who contributed to saving my life and just how fortunate we are to have the Oceanside Urgent Care Health Centre and Nanaimo Regional General Hospital available to us. Thank you to all who helped to save my life.
Oh, and by the way, the food was delicious too especially the deserts.
