Bystanders, then fire crews, promptly took care of a grass fire late Friday (June 20) in Saanich.
Witnesses stopped short when they spotted the area under the Carey Road pedestrian overpass alight with fire shortly after 10 p.m.
Steve and Aiden Burton encountered the fire on the way into Victoria headed south on Douglas Street.

A VicPD officer was already attacking the fire with a portable extinguisher, the pair told Saanich News.
A passerby helped with a second extinguisher and the pair controlled the blaze until fire crews arrived to promptly douse the flames.
Saanich Fire said the small wildland fire on the Galloping Goose Regional Trail was quickly extinguished with one crew, small extension line and a quarter-tank of water.
