The Cariboo Memorial Hospital Foundation presents the 2023 ticket raffle in celebration of Woodland Jewellers Ltd.’s 90th anniversary.

The draw will take place at Sacred Heart Hall on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, for the hospital gala’s vintage Christmas.

Designer and goldsmith Geoff Bourdon, who owns Woodland Jewellers with his wife, Kendal, has been designing unique, one-of-a-kind rings and pendants for the hospital raffle since 2009.

In total, they’ve raised $150,000 for the Cariboo Memorial Hospital, with all proceeds going toward the hospital being able to purchase needed equipment.

“It’s a full donation,” said Geoff, which includes his time, materials and the raffle money.

The exquisite ring is valued at $8,000 and features a centred bezel set with a 0.15-carat flower-cut diamond. It’s surrounded by six 1.84-carat oval Ceylon blue sapphires, followed by six 0.14-carat diamond flower petals and a hand-fabricated ring in platinum.

Geoff purchased the flower-cut diamond a few years ago and since then, has been wanting to design something with it. Once he had the blue sapphires, it all came together, he said.

The ring took about two weeks to make, with a few sketches, but most of the design came from his head.

“I’m a build-it-in-my-head designer,” he chuckled. “Because it’s hand fabricated, I adjust things as I go.”

For Woodland Jewellers, they love being able to contribute to the community.

“Thank you again to the community for supporting the fundraiser,” said Geoff. “I believe it’s every business’s responsibility to give back to the community that supports us.”

Tickets are available for purchase at Woodland Jewellers at 150 Oliver Street, Tuesday through Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
