Williams Lake square dancers raise funds for BCSPCA

The dancers were seeking fun and exercise but they also wanted to  spread a little Valentine love to the local SPCA

Square dancers from the Williams Lake Stampede Whirlaways Club attended a Valentine Dance held in the gym of the Cariboo Chilcotin Child Development Center. The purpose of this event was two-fold.

The dancers were seeking fun and exercise but they also wanted to spread a little Valentine love to the local SPCA. They arrived at the dance carrying dog and cat food, animal treats, cat litter, leashes, dog collars, food dishes and many other items to donate to the local SPCA.

For two hours they danced happily and the square dance callers joined in the fun by using tunes such as “A Dog Named Boo,” “The Cat Came Back” and “How Much is the Doggie in the Window,”  At coffee break time, treats appeared that had been creatively decorated to look like dogs or cats.  It had been an enjoyable theme for a dance event.

The following day, club president Dana Ball travelled up to the SPCA to deliver boxes overflowing with the practical donations as well as some cash.

Now that spring is approaching, the square dancers will be winding down their dance season which runs from October to early April. For information about the Stampede Whirlaways Square Dance Club and how to join in on their fun, go to their website at https://whirlaways.my.canva.site/
