The Williams Lake Community Animal Center is open by appointment only, until further notice.
A post on the local SPCA facility's Facebook page on Oct. 23 notified the public the shelter is focusing on animal care and only able to accommodate pre-scheduled appointments.
After a combination of both retirements and staff leaving, the facility does not have adequate staff to open for regular hours.
They are also holding off on taking surrendered animals until they have more staff.
The centre needs two staff on hand to be open to the public, so until hiring takes place, they will be operating at a reduced capacity.
For sick or injured animals, staff recommended people call veterinarians directly for assistance.
Their pet food bank is also low or out of stock on most items, and people hoping to donate will also need to make an appointment to ensure staff are there to receive the donation and anyone looking for food for an animal will need to check and see if they even have the item.
To make an appointment or for more information phone 250-392-2179 or email wmslake@spca.bc.ca.
Staff said replying to messages may take a little time as well.
