Williams Lake artists express bike joy in new exhibition

Freedom in Motion - Bike Joy is the next group exhibit up in the main gallery of the Station House Gallery in Williams Lake.

Imprinted on the mind of many people is the singular sense of freedom a person can get when they learn to ride a bicycle.

A new exhibition opened on Thursday, July 11, sharing the joy and freedom a bike can provide.

Freedom in Motion - Bike Joy was an open group exhibition, available for any artist to submit their work for the show.

Artists submitted work in a large range of mediums, from video to to writing to different paints.

At the opening, LeRae Haynes and Evan Jensen played music while attendees enjoyed snacks and beverages while enjoying the art.

Davana Stafford, Station House Manager, said a few words at the opening, sharing her appreciation for the diversity of the show, which included a custom-built tall bike by Kurt Williams, paintings by well-known local artists like Linda Sawyer and Leah Selk and stories by local writers Bert Groenenberg and Monica Lamb-Yorski.

Artist Sarah Sigurdson of Cariboo Art Beat also spoke, recounting some of her experience working on a project with local high school artists in creating a mural, a small print of which is included in the show, along with the story of its creation.

The show will be on display in the Station House Gallery until August 24. The gallery is free to visit and is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
