Spooky season is upon us and some great events are happening this weekend and on Halloween to celebrate, but beware.
Haunted House
The BGC Williams Lake Club is hosting the 12th annual haunted house at their location across from FreshCo at 17 Fourth Avenue South.
The two-night event offers both one for the family or one for those looking for an extra scare.
On Friday, Oct. 27, from 6-8 p.m., families can attend the less scary event, suitable for children. Depending on your group, you can request whether you’re okay with jump scares or if you’d prefer the lights on.
On Saturday, Oct. 28, from 6-9 p.m., expect the entire scare event. Parents are advised to bring their children at their own risk.
Be on the lookout for this year’s theme: a haunted throw-back (think Little Shop of Horrors or Children of the Corn).
The haunted house is donation-based. Food, hygiene and clothing items are also acceptable for those wanting to give more and go toward the Youth Necessity Nook.
Halloween All-Ages Dance
Come and boogie at the Gibraltar Room on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 8 p.m. until midnight. The all-ages dance will have music from Vancouver DJ In A Chord, face painting by Cariboo ART BEAT and popcorn and cotton candy by donation.
Tickets are available at The Realm of Toys at $5 a person. Children two and under are free, and children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. A licensed bar will be available for those 19 and older with I.D.
Trick-Or-Treat Downtown
The Realm of Toys and the Nerd Room will host downtown’s trick-or-treat event on Halloween day. Trick-or-treaters can come out at 2 p.m. until participating businesses close.
This is the eighth year for the event, with 39 businesses participating. In 2019, there were 50 locations and 744 kids who came out. Post-pandemic in 2022, 25 locations participated with just over 400 kids, said Jazmyn Lyons, who owns Realm of Toys.
Parents are encouraged to remind their kids that not all businesses will give out candy. Some will be handing out merchandise or snacks. The Realm of Toys will be giving out a small toy, so make sure kids are prepared to receive a mix of items.
As always, be cautious as roads and businesses are open for regular business. Ensure your children know to stay on the sidewalk, use crosswalks and follow traffic lights.
Participating businesses will have a poster for the event in their window and a map is available in the Tribune. There will not be passports this year, so just come out and have fun.
Halloween Bonfire and Fireworks
Come down to the Stampede Grounds for a bonfire at 7:15 p.m. and fireworks at 7:45 p.m. on Halloween night. The event is free, making it a perfect post-trick-or-treating event. Enjoy hot chocolate and hotdogs by donation and a pie-eating contest. For those wishing to participate in the pie-eating contest, visit williamslake.ca/programregistration.
This is the 44th annual Halloween fireworks event at the Stampede Grounds, with support from the Community Services Department, Williams Lake Fire Department and Williams Lake Community Policing.
