The smell of ham filled the air as Louise Griffioen prepared lunch at the Williams Lake Salvation Army on Dec. 15, 2023.

The Salvation Army provides breakfast and lunch, Monday through Friday, for those in need of a meal. Breakfast and lunch are 45 minutes beginning at 9 a.m. and again at noon.

Griffioen works in the kitchen on Thursdays and Fridays. She made the soup the night prior, she said, but came in to add some extra ham to it. She’s been volunteering and working with the Salvation Army for many years now, something she enjoys doing as a way to give to the community.
