Women and children celebrated Lohri in Williams Lake on Saturday, Jan. 18 at the Gibraltar Room in the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex.
The evening entailed snacks and a meal catered by Tandoori Bistro, door prizes, dancing and socialization.
Lohri is a winter Punjabi folk festival celebrated in Northern India held to mark the end of winter and longer days ahead.
Amarjit (Amy) Khakh, a member of the Lights for Life group that organizes the event each year, said it is important to celebrate Lohri so the new generation can be rooted in their culture.
"The event was successful. Everyone enjoyed the evening," said said.
It was the 12th time the Lights for Life group organized a Lohri event and Kakh said they are hoping for the best in the future.
Over the years it has been held at various locations including the former Elks Hall, the Longhouse and the Gibraltar Room.
