Seniors in Williams Lake got a head start celebrating St. Patrick’s Day with a Shamrock Lunch Friday, March 15.
“We sold out,” exclaimed Pat Cassidy, a member of the OAPO branch 93 who organized the event.
Local senior Marie Durand prepared a lunch of roast pork, apple sauce, mashed potatoes and veggies, with help from many volunteers while Joann Wright made a lemon mousse cake for dessert.
All funds raised at the lunch go back into the Williams Lake Seniors Activity Centre, said OAPO president Tina Derksen.
As Cassidy got up to announce prize winners, Derksen pointed out the new sound system the OAPO recently purchased.
“We also give two $1,000 bursaries each year - one to a graduating student from William Lake Secondary and a Thompson Rivers University student who are going into the health care field,” Derksen said.
Aside from the lunch there was a bake sale with all goods made and donated by the seniors as well as a boutique table where there were handmade items as well.
Cassidy arranged for the students at Sacred Heart Catholic School to make placements for the tables.
When all of the volunteers who helped put on the lunch were asked to gather for a photograph, centre manager Kylie Green congratulated them all.
St. Patrick’s Day falls on Sunday, May 17, this year, and is always a good excuse to wear green.
