It was a beautiful event that had a beautiful result.

The annual Lights for Life dinner and dance, a women-only event held yearly in Williams Lake to celebrate Diwali, the festival of lights, raised thousands of dollars for local charities.

Organizers purchased $2,500 worth of groceries for the Salvation Army food bank this past week, and also sponsored 11 families for the Yuletide dinner put on by the Child Development Centre.

The Yuletide dinner is a yearly dinner of gourmet turkey and ham provided free to families or individuals who are experiencing difficult times and who might not otherwise have a true holiday meal.

The ladies will also be donating their time to serve food at the Yuletide dinner.

From past events, the Lights for Life event has raised over $15,000 for the Cariboo Memorial Hospital.
