Weytk-p, hello everyone.

Esk’etemc is a Secwepemc nation made up of 19 reserves situated on the Fraser River southwest of Williams Lake, with an approximate total area of 3,800 hectares. Esk’etemc’s administrative offices and much of the population are located about 50 kilometres from Williams Lake on the east side of the Fraser River at Alkali Lake.

Esk’etemc has its own community school, Sxoxomic Community School, that opened in 2017 to serve elementary programs originally up to Grade 7. However, with senior leadership changes in our neighbouring public education system over the past six years, we have found a need to expand our programming to Grade 10 and keep more of our children in community, so their needs are being met.

At Esk’etemc and Sxoxomic Community School, programs are deeply rooted in the Seven Sacred/Grandfather Teachings of love, bravery, respect, honesty, humility, truth and wisdom.

Within this foundation, the First Peoples Principles of Learning are embedded, embracing the rich cultural heritage and holistic well-being of our children. Our vision encompasses the future development of education and the empowerment of children within the Esk’etemc community based on learning as a Connected Process, Learning in Relationship, Learning through Storytelling, Learning by Doing, Learning with Elders and Community and Learning as a Personal Journey.

Through the implementation of this vision, we are empowering Esk’etemc children to become resilient, confident, and culturally grounded individuals who will shape a thriving future for themselves, their families and the Esk’etemc First Nation.
