Cheryl Engemoen is settling in as the new manager at the Seniors’ Activity Centre, replacing Jenny Brown who started retirement Jan. 1.
Engemoen has been a child and youth worker with the Child Development Centre for 17 years and is enjoying the change, but not necessarily a slower pace than before.
“I’m just having a blast over here,” Engemoen says. “I needed a change and these people put the active into the name Seniors’ Activity Centre. Man, they are busy.”
She says the centre offers all kinds of activities from water colour painting and exercise classes to a great lunch.
She says retiring manager Jenny Brown has been helping her out with the transition and helping her to prepare the year-end reports.
“Jenny has been fabulous, absolutely wonderful.”
Engemoen says she started at the centre in mid-December but has really been getting into the swing of things since the two-week Christmas break ended in January.
Brown says she officially retired Jan. 1 but has been happy to help out in the transition.
“I had a really enjoyable time working at the centre,” Brown says.
After 20 years in Williams Lake, Brown says she and her husband, Chuck, are planning a move to the Coast to be closer to their children and extended families.
