Celebrate ParticipACTION June 1-30 in Williams Lake

Williams Lake will join communities across Canada promoting ParticipACTION in June to win

The Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex (CMRC) and city of Williams Lake are encouraging residents to get active this June and join in the ParticipACTION Community Challenge.

This national initiative encourages Canadians to get active throughout the month, ultimately recognizing Canada’s most active community and awarding it with $100,000 to support local physical activity and sport initiatives.

In Williams Lake, anyone can participate and contribute by signing up as an individual or registering as an organization on the ParticipACTION website before June 1. Once participants are registered to be active for their community this June, the CMRC and other organizations have daily free activities happening from June 1-30 to take part in. Participants are also asked to download the free Optimity app on the Google Play and Apple app stores to help them keep active for the community throughout the month.

“We’ve seen the Community Challenge grow year after year and have some fantastic local organizations and businesses on board leading several fun and exciting events throughout the month,” said Maria McKee, adult recreation coordinator. “We’ve received great feedback during the first two years of hosting the challenge and are looking forward to once again offering free activities each day throughout the month of June.”

Community Challenge activities include disc golf, aquafit, beginner yoga, pickleball and several free fitness classes at the complex, along with free scheduled classes being offered by community organizations. There are also others you can do on your own time like walking your pet, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing or even flying a kite.

In addition to a grand prize draw, there will be weekly draws for registered organizations. One community will also be selected to receive between $7,500 and $15,000 to support local physical activity initiatives.

New this year, participants are no longer required to track their minutes of physical activity to take part in the Community Challenge. Community winners are determined by total individual registrations, total organization registrations and number of activities and participants tracked by participating organizations.

Visit the ParticipACTION Community Challenge page on the City’s website at www.williamslake.ca/996/ParticipACTION-Community-Challenge for the complete June Community Challenge Schedule and Calendar, or pick them up at the Complex front desk. You can also track your progress by collecting stamps for your calendar at each activity eligible for a stamp. Collect 10 stamps to enter into the grand prize draw.

The ParticipACTION Community Challenge is proudly supported by the Government of Canada, Saputo and Sun Life.
