The Williams Lake Cycling Club is hosting the second annual Peel Out Mountain Bike event from May 21-22 and is inviting all bike enthusiasts to join them for this festival of mountain biking.
The event includes four separate competitions that span Saturday and Sunday. Riders can pre-register at Red Shreds Bike and Board Shed or at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the first race start on Fox Mountain. Riders are encouraged to pre-register.
“The Cariboo has some of the best trails in the province, and events like these are intended to provide the community with a chance to celebrate our biking culture,” said WLCC director Mark Savard. “Everyone can participate. Last year we had participants as young as eight and as old as 70 riding the course.”
The club is hoping that every rider in Williams Lake will come out to make the two-day event a success.
“Even if you don’t ride, the event is guaranteed to be really exciting for spectators,” Savard said. “People and parents are encourage to line the course and cheer the riders on.”
Justin Calof, chairperson of the Cariboo Mountain Bike Consortium, said events like these go a long way in promoting and expanding the sport.
“Events like these are intended to increase the economic impact of mountain biking and are part of a broader regional strategy being led by the Cariboo Mountain Bike Consortium,” Calof said.
After both races, riders will go to the Boitanio Bike Park where a barbecue concession will be set up, as well as demo tents from Norco, Kona and Intense.
A number of professional riders will also be attending the event to participate and judge.
On Saturday night at 7 p.m., the club is hosting a licensed all-ages concert and video premier upstairs at Big Mama’s on Highway 97.
Riders are scheduled to meet at Ross and Fox Mountain Roads to kick off the event on Saturday morning. The cost for the event is $40 for those over 16 and $30 for those under 15.
