Vernon rowers stole the show at an Albertan regatta.
Members of the Vernon Rowing and Dragon Boat Club (VRDBC) competed at the 2025 Alberta Open in Calgary, among 308 participating crews from June 28-29.
The Vernon junior men had a fantastic showing, raking in three gold medals.
The regatta took place on the Glenmore Reservoir, where crews competed over a 1500-metre distance.
Cole O'Connor and Ryland Holmgren started off the regatta with a silver medal in the U19 men's double.
In the U17 competition, Peter Masys and Leo Middelkamp picked up gold in the doubles event, winning by over a minute.
The next morning (Sunday, June 29), Masys took first and Middelkamp second in the U17 men's singles. Additionally, the duo teamed up with O'Connor and Holmgren to win the U19 men's quad competition.
In U23, Jonas Masys closed the gap to his senior opponents, winning silver in the lightweight men's single event.
The men's open quad, with the Masys brothers, Middelkamp and Steel Quiring took fifth, losing only to seasoned university crews.
The women also had a strong showing, with Sierra Munroe and Aida Mills winning silver in the U19 women's double and pair races. Together with Amy Milne and Kate Green, they recorded a bronze finish in the U19 women’s quad.
Also competing was a VRDBC alumna, Elena Masyte. Currently racing for the University of Victoria, she earned four gold medals in the open women’s double, pair, four, and eight.
