Dime Valley takes on Nanaimo Swish side

The Dime Valley Oceanside U15 girls basketball team held court recently, taking on the Nanaimo Swish in an exhibition game at Kwalikum Secondary School.

The Oceanside squad played well in their first home game but ended up losing a close contest, 39-37.

The team, which features players from Grade 6 to Grade 9, was formed by KSS Grade 8 coaches Chris Grootendorst and Olivia Panichelli.

"After a successful season, we wanted to continue fostering our players' development," said Grootendorst. "Thanks to Dime Valley out of Comox, we were able to form a local club team under their banner."

Grootendorst said the team is looking forward to competing in upcoming tournaments this June, including Vikes Nation and the Vancouver Island Championship.

"Looking ahead, we hope to see more local girls' club teams emerging in the future," said Grootendorst.
