The Columneetza Cougars senior boys rugby team travelled to Kamloops last Sunday to take on the Norkam Saints in preparation for the upcoming seven-a-side provincial championships in Vancouver this weekend, April 16-17.

Fighting valiantly, the Cougars took two of three matches from the Saints, a ‘AAA’ school.

In game one Columneetza laid a 36-0 drubbing on Norkam before the Saints responded with a 12-5 victory of their own in game two.

The Cougars then took game three’s rubber match, 27-5.

Try scorers for Columneetza over the three games included Benno Durfeld, Patrick Kenny, David Debeer, Kenny Hubner, Ryan Parker, Cody Tent, Tyler Shippit (2), Jordan Pritchard (3) and Geoffrey Wambolt (3).

Jordan also kicked four conversions over the three-game set.

Cougars coach Todd Pritchard said Patrick Brebner and Matt Hoffman were solid on defence, while Tent and Jordan each pitched in some thunderous hits of their own.

In addition, he complimented Wambolt on his play throughout the series of matches.

“Geoffrey was all over the pitch making good decisions distributing the ball and running in three long tries,” Todd said.

“He earned the man of the match award.”
