The Canadian Cancer Society has been serving the Williams Lake area since 1946.
Originally operating out of volunteers’ homes, the organization then moved to several different offices in town.
We are currently situated in the Seniors Activity Centre at 176 Fourth Avenue North.
We are open from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. every weekday except Wednesday.
We can help you to access information and support. We offer travel treatment information and forms, prostheses, wigs, toques and other headwear and a place to learn about other programs and services of the Canadian Cancer Society.
We raise money for research and to support those who are going through cancer treatments and their families.
We are active in Cops for Cancer, the Daffodil Campaign and the sale of Christmas cakes and goodies and a popular Christmas raffle.
We do outreach in the community to increase public awareness concerning relevant issues such as smoking cessation and radon detection.
In 2017, it was necessary to close our physical office space in order to reduce administrative costs.
Fortunately, due to the generosity of the Seniors Activity Centre, we were allowed to remain in our office rent free during 2018.
The SAC is now sponsoring an event to raise funds so that they can continue to provide this service in 2019, with the goal of raising $5,000 to cover rent, internet connections, and basic office supplies.
The fundraising event is called Oktoberfest and is a dinner, dance and silent auction, which will take place at the SAC on Oct. 21 from 5 to 10 p.m.
Tickets will be $18 each and will include a wonderful German dinner, dessert, tea and coffee and dancing with music provided by the talented Williams Lake Community Band.
We are asking the public to support us by attending this worthwhile event, by making a donation, or by contributing items which could be used for the silent auction.
The SAC will dedicate all proceeds towards the cost of keeping the Williams Lake Community Office of the Canadian Cancer Society open for another year.
