June is nearly halfway over and I’m not even sure where May went.
Congratulations Melissa Coates, our new School District Trustee. You have interesting days ahead.

Every month has special days. Not all “Days” are widely celebrated -- or even widely known. June 13 is special locally this year because it’s Lake City Secondary School’s graduation. Congratulations Grads as you step into a new Chapter of your lives.
Other special days. Pride month began June 1. June is also Candy Month. June 1 was Parent’s Day. June 2-8 was Senior’s week. Most of us know June 15 is Fathers’ Day, but who knew it’s National Milk Day? June 5 was World Environment Day. On June 6, 1944, Allied forces invaded German held Normandy, France, and secured a foothold in spite of huge casualties. Called D- Day, the invasion was the beginning of the end of WW11.
June 8 was International Oceans Day. June 21, summer solstice, the longest day of the year, is National Indigenous Peoples Day. Friday, June 27 is Canadian Multicultural Day.
On June 19, the Tsilhqot’in Nation will celebrate Yeztan Biny Gagghut (Tezan Biny Agreement). After decades of fighting to protect the land from mining proposals, the Nation has reached consent agreements with the Province and Taseko mines. That’s a celebration I hate to have to miss. It took much time and determination, but the Tsilhqot’in Nation finally proved their point on both history and the environment.

I don’t get out or about anymore so I don’t get a first hand look at people and needles and stuff littering public places, but the fires are scaring me. They are a completely different thing. Fires in garbage containers are a worry bu do we add burning city buildings to our concern over wildfires?
