It was disappointing to read the article about a long-standing Canadian provider of parking services at Victoria International Airport (YYJ) being replaced by an American company. Whilst we are not privy to the finer details of the contract, it is, to say the least, poor optics in light of current political circumstances.
This comes at a time when the short-term parking rate has skyrocketed. This area is used mainly as a brief stop whilst awaiting arriving passengers, for on average approximately 20 minutes. It started out at $1(excellent), went to $2 (OK), and is now $4 (outrageous).
What’s the justification for this onerous increase? Targeting this area with such an increase is not justifiable and detracts from the previously ‘friendly’ experience of picking up your passengers at YYJ.
