FRENCH CONNECTION: Let's brag about Canada

Let’s put our usual reticence aside and start tooting our horns

More rah rahs today.

We need to forget this baloney about being Canada broken and beholden to the U.S.A.  It isn’t true. Canada is strong and free. Future generations are going to wonder what we were bellyaching about. Instead of listening to self-interested blathermouths, we need to bone up on our history, past and present.  How many Canadians know we are one of the world’s oldest continuous democracies, dating back to 1848?

We’ve had difficulties and challenges for sure, but Canada ranks high as one of the best countries in the world to live in for a number of reasons –strong economy, high standard of living, high standards in social, legal, health care and education systems. (i.e. Canadian children score higher in literacy, numeracy and problem-solving than American children.)  Our universities are the best anywhere. We rank high in human rights, quality of life, safety, happiness and prosperity.

We’ve had no civil wars. We have a Charter of Rights and Freedoms. We’re bilingual in English and French, kind and friendly in both. We’re well-regarded by other countries—we’re seen as good neighbours. To top it off, we’re known worldwide for the natural beauty of our country.

We’re not perfect, who is, but we can be proud of who we are.  Of course we can make things better, we’re always working on that, but right now we are living in perilous times, we need to treasure what we have and protect it however we can. If it means waving our flag, buying Canadian, supporting our leaders, coping with hard times, saying no to President Trump— whatever it takes, let’s do it. And let’s put our usual reticence aside and start tooting our horns.

We have a country we can brag about, so let’s not be shy about doing the bragging.
