FRENCH CONNECTION: Important to vote

My dream is to see peaceful, progressive years, with all parties working together as proud Canadians without any yapping at each other.

I’ve been voting in elections for 73 years, but this is the first time I’ve been nervous about the outcome Why? Donald Trump is one reason. Another is I fear we’ll be taken over by corporate interests. This is one of the most consequential elections we have ever had and we’ll live with the results for years.

Heavens knows we have always had issues, usually the same ones   – not enough housing, too much crime, cost of living too high, incomes too low, etc. etc.  No government has ever solved them all.  We have to have corporations for the economy to hum but we don’t need the private sector to operate all our social services systems, environmental programs, or to interfere with our decent attitude toward those of different colour, race, religion or lifestyle.

The election race is down to two leaders, Conservative Pierre Poilievre and Liberal’s new leader, Prime Minister Mark Carney.  Poilievre is 43, has 21 years experience as an MP, the last three as Opposition Leader. Carney, who is 60, has no political history, but has experience in the economic field and dealing with word leaders. Who is best to lead us?

My dream is to see peaceful, progressive years, with all parties working together as proud Canadians without any yapping at each other.   A satisfactory government could be either a Liberal or Conservative minority with a goodly number of NDPs, Greens and Blocs to keep them on track, with no votes of confidence interrupting proceedings. This government would of course cope with President Trump, and not copy nor give in to any of his ideas.

The important thing people, is for you to vote!

President Trump has a new nickname, thanks to U.S. columnist Robert Reich. How do you like Humpty Trumpty?
