Sgt. Rick Lebeuf is one of the newer but more experienced faces at the Williams Lake RCMP detachment.

Lebeuf transferred to Williams Lake from Ottawa to replace an outgoing general duty sergeant at the detachment.

Despite some time spent working in B.C. throughout his career, he says he’s glad to be back in his “home province” after postings in Alberta, the Northwest Territories and Ontario.

Lebeuf, who began his career in 1986, acknowledges the 10 postings through those years is “more than the average officer.”

But he says it’s all been by choice.

“I like new challenges and I like to see as much of the country as I can.”

Lebeuf requested to be transferred to Williams Lake despite the detachment’s renowned heavy work load.

“The detachment is very busy,” he concedes. “But there’s a great bunch of members who are very dedicated, hardworking officers.”

Lebeuf’s role, in addition to general duty, will be to run media relations and oversee the department’s many volunteers.

He says he’s impressed by the number of community members who not only volunteer with the detachment programs but volunteer in general.

“The volunteers here are strong in numbers compared to what I’m used to,” he says.

Lebeuf  thinks Williams Lake will be a good fit personally as he enjoys mountain biking, fishing and hiking. And he says after spending time on national security work in Ottawa he’s just happy to be back on the beat performing the operational duties of an RCMP officer.
