The Williams Lake Pickleball Club will be helping more people play the growing sport on Aug. 10, National Pickleball Day.
On Aug. 10, not only is the group celebrating the sport they love by hosting an event with lessons and games, but they will also be giving away pickleball paddles for youth interested in playing.
In Rink 2 of Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., the club will host free lessons for participants, instructions for those who have played and free games to drop in.
Plus the first 40 young players ages eight to 16 can receive new paddles, balls and safety glasses to get going in the growing sport.
A certified coach will be on hand to provide the lessons.
From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., lessons will be for those new to the sport. From 12-1 p.m., lessons will be available to those who have already played the sport, and from 1-2 p.m. all pickleball players are invited to drop in and play some games.
Some equipment will also be available to be signed out from the front desk of the rec centre and children under 12 years of age do need to come with an adult.
The equipment giveaway for youth is possible thanks to a grant the club received from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #139.
