Williams Lake Pickleball Club said 2023 was a great year for the organization, now with 116 active members.

Through this winter, the city’s recreation department and the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex has helped the club to play during the colder months.

Wednesday night the club facilitates a beginners class, Monday and Thursday are for all levels. Tuesdays and Sundays recreational players rally to play.

Thursday, Friday and Sunday there are advanced levels taking it a bit more seriously.

There is something for everyone, according to Darlene Lainchbury, club president.

The club is planning to host four tournaments. Tournaments will take place in March, May, July, and September.

Notices will be emailed out for tournaments to members and one will also be open to out of area players.

“Last summer, many people traveling through came and played with us,” said Lainchbury, who said it was great to meet people from all over the world.

With pickleball being played in most countries now, she said it is an accessible sport for many throughout all ages.

Williams Lake’s club includes players as young as 13 and their eldest is 80.

“Both are very good players,” she said.

In May of last year, the club became a not-for-profit organization, which will help them access funding in the future.

“We look forward to growing even more this season,” said Lainchbury.
