Racing keeps Garnet Grimard young, he says

I also enjoy the engineering that goes into these cars, Grimard said

Garnet Grimard started racing in 1999 in the bomber class driving a 1970 Chevy pickup he built.

After winning the championship he moved into a street stock class which also lead to a championship.

“I went into a late model tour class called WESCAR and had two second place championships. I raced there for several years then went back into Tri-City street stocks where I had several wins and runner-up championships.”

Grimard said he loves the sport. He is also an auto and heavy duty red seal by trade and for 25 years had his own business - Northshore Repair.

Originally from Burnaby, Grimard moved to the Cariboo in 1969, finishing school here.

“My mom and dad bought the Oasis Resort in McLeese Lake and eventually built B.C.’s first neighbourhood pub.”

Growing up he always loved cars and to drive, which he said inspired him to get into racing.

“It keeps me young. I also enjoy the engineering that goes into these cars."

This season, he would love to see a drift car event featured at the track.

"It would be a crowd draw for sure," he said.
