Athletes powered through the final, and hottest day of the 97th Williams Lake Stampede.
Already leading in the weekend's mountain races, Darren Sulin of Towdystan took an early lead in the fourth and final Mountain Race of the Stampede and was the first to pass the finish line, clinching his overall win for this year. Local Derek Hink took a tumble around a corner, but that didn't stop him from finishing the race, doing so in a cloud of dust formed by the racers ahead of him.
Winning this year's Wild Cowgirl Race was the Stampede's first ever contestant from Alberta, Kerry Johnson and her horse Romee. She took home $2,000 in cash as well as an Ellis Cattle Co. Saddle and a buckle by Downtown Service & Trailers. Second place in was Angie Reid wither her horse Lacy from Savona, B.C., who got to take home a buckle sponsored by Irish Excavating and Contracting. In third place was the Cariboo's own Kale Hartman and Turbo from 100 Mile House.
