Atom

The atom Cowichan Bulldogs lost 30-0 to a strong opponent in the Nanaimo Hawks this past weekend.

"The team played very well despite the loss. Lots of players were able to run the ball including a very good run from Nixon Jeet," said head coach Tyler Gavin.

Rowan McGarvey was able to break off a big run for a touchdown but was called back on a penalty.

"Defensively we played well. The team tackling was much better this week and seemed to have multiple players in on tackles," Young said. "A big stand out was Teagan Hale. She was able to make lots of tackles, really showcasing her speed."

Next week the team hopes to be in the playoffs for the Dogwood Cup and is waiting to hear who their opponent will be.

Peewee

A 20-0 win over the Oceanside Lions in Parksville gave the peewee Cowichan Bulldogs an undefeated regular season and the number one seed and home-field advantage in the upcoming playoffs.

"It was a hard-fought game, defined by our strong defence," said head coach Justin Young.

Standout players included Felix Bernardi, Liam Freeland, Rylend Blondin Monti, and Austin Shaver.

"Felix had an incredible game, scoring on offence and making crucial tackles on defence," Young said. "His performance was truly impressive and highlighted by the unwavering effort of his teammates."

On offence, Rylen Heyer threw two touchdown passes to Bernardi and also ran one in himself.

"I'm incredibly proud of the season these kids have put together. Their determination and resilience have been evident throughout, especially considering we had fewer players compared to previous years," Young said. "I'm really looking forward to seeing how they perform in the playoffs."

The semi-finals are this coming Saturday at McAdam Park.

Junior Bantam

It wasn't the best outing for the junior bantam Bulldogs in their road loss to Oceanside this past weekend.

"It was just one of those days where nothing goes right," explained head coach Opie Williams. "It started with the majority of the team being late due to traffic on the highway. Without this extra time, we didn't have a proper warm up and time to mentally prepare."

Williams said that all the bounces went Oceanside's way in the 51-0 Bulldogs loss.

"It was just one of those days," said the coach.

Turning the page, the JB Bulldogs finished the regular season in fourth and will suit up against Saanich in the first round of the playoffs.
