The Junior Bantam Bulldogs fell to the Saanich Wolverines this past weekend, ending their spring season.

Atom

The atom Cowichan Bulldogs met the Spartans in their playoff game, coming up short in a heart-breaking 19-18 last-minute loss.

"The Spartans scored with only 30 seconds left in the game," said head coach Tyler Gavin. "The team played their hearts out and didn’t give up."

Standout Rowan McGarvey scored all three touchdowns for the Bulldogs while big runs from Noah Atchison and Carter Thorne helped make big ground — with help from Jacob Whittet who blocked "exceptionally well" according to the coach.

Christian Murray had a ton of hard hits to lead the defence, who played very physical as a whole.

"Many times our D-line got into the backfield with great plays from Kohen Hack and Eli Frenchy-Thorne," Gavin said.

The loss ended the atom Bulldogs' spring season.

"This team was very new to football to start the year and the knowledge and growth shown is every coach's dream," Gavin said. "Look out for this group moving forward they are bound for special things."

Peewee

The peewee Cowichan Bulldogs won their playoff game this past weekend against the Oceanside Lions.

With an 8-8 draw after regulation, the teams had to go to a Texas shootout in overtime.

"We scored and our defence stood strong," said head coach Justin Young.

Fynn Bellis was "a monster" inside the tackles on offence stepping in at running back, Young said.

Rylen Heyer scored the lone Bulldogs touchdown while on defence while Devon Randhawa had an interception, as did Carter Bouchard, who had the game sealing interception.

Damian Montoya was a force on offence both with some amazing catches and with running the ball.

"We are now onto the island finals," Young said. "It was amazing to see the players fight hard to come away with a win and not give up despite the fight that Oceanside was putting up."

Junior Bantam

The junior bantam Bulldogs met the Saanich Wolverines at Copley Park in Victoria in the semi-finals. The Wolverines, undefeated this season, went on to win 47-8 and will move on to the VICFA finals. The loss meant the end of the season for the JB Bulldogs.
