Williams Lake Fire Department (WLFD) responded to a grass fire behind businesses on Mackenzie Avenue on March 9.

At 1:19 p.m., WLFD received the call, and two fire trucks and five firefighters responded, arriving to a strip of grass about 100 m long on fire near 225 Mackenzie Avenue.

“We were able to quickly knock it down before it spread too far and before it got into any of the buildings along Mackenzie,” said Brendan Foote, deputy fire chief.

He said firefighters worked for about 45 minutes to extinguish the blaze and no buildings were damaged by the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

“Just be aware of the dry conditions and be careful out there,” said Foote, noting despite it being early March, fuels are very dry.
