Strongmen from Williams Lake showed their muscle at the Kelowna's Strongest competition on June 7.
A full day of events at City Park in Kelowna brought 82 athletes, both men and women, to put their names on the roster.
"It went amazing," said Tyson Delay, who has competed in strongman events for about 10 years and coaches many local strong men and women.
Delay won four out of the five events he competed in at the 2025 Kelowna's Strongest, granting him the winning title of the U105 (under 105 kilograms) light heavy weight class.
"I just about swept it," said Delay, who has won at Kelowna's Strongest three other times before.
Delay placed first in his class for the Super Yoke event, the 690-pound Keg Lift and the Power Stairs event, garnering nine points in each. He also tied for first in the Monster Dumbell event with 8.5 points and placed second in the Man-Made Medley event with eight points.
Stefan Hall, who owns Rebel Fit Nutrition in Williams Lake, placed third overall in the Men's U90 middle weight class. He placed first in his class in the Max Keg Deadlift event, getting eight points for a 690-pound lift and third in the Super Yoke and Power Stairs events, getting six points in each.
Dan Ursino of Williams Lake, who previously told the Tribune he competes for his daughters, was on the roster in men's Open Weight, the competition's largest class.
Just one week following the competition, Delay made his way to Edmonton for the Alberta's Strongest provincials where a total of 98 athletes competed. Delay said he won three out of five events at the provincial competition, coming in second and fifth in the other two events.
His strongest event was the Loading Medley when he loaded a platform, about 30 feet away from him, with first a 250-pound sandbag followed by a 220-pound keg followed by a 260-pound keg. He won the event by 20 seconds, beating the next best time by six seconds.
"Very grateful to have come out on top," said Delay who was competing in the Alberta provincials for the first time. "These guys were both very large and very strong. It was a tough day but I made it through."
Delay participated in the Allberta provincials to make up for being unable to compete in the B.C. provincials this year. That's because he's the one organizing provincials, and it's going to be right here in Williams Lake on August 30.
“When I host I give my heart and soul to hosting,” Delay said, explaining that he won't have any energy left to compete come the weekend of B.C.'s Strongman provincials. “I’m like a bucket of scrambled eggs,” he said about his state after organizing events of this size.
Delay is expecting to have about 80 to 90 athletes competing in this year's provincials, and is hoping to secure an indoor venue for the event.
Before anything though, will be the Twin Rivers Strengthfest at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops from July 12 to 13.
"That's pretty exciting," he said, adding that the entire Williams Lake team will be going.
