A hot, sunny week ended with a chill in the air, but this wasn't enough to stop folks from visiting plant and yard sales in Williams Lake on Saturday, May 3.
The Scout Island Nature House hosted its annual spring plant and and yard sale, busy with succulents, dishes, books and framed art to buy, and just five minutes away the Giant Plant Sale was back at Saint Peter's Anglican Church.
The Williams Lake and Area Girl Guides had their own booth set up at the Giant Plant Sale to sell treats for a fundraiser. The Girl Guides also had tomatoes on site which they planted as part of the Tomatosphere program, a free, hands-on experience for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 which looks at how exposure to space, or space-like conditions, affects the growth of tomatoes. The group found that seeds which had been in space produced taller and healthier tomatoes.
The first ever Seedling Saturday was also on at the Earlybird Farmers' Market, attracting many a shopper to browse vendors including Wheelchair Woodturnings, Mushroom Monarchy and Frank's Plants and Produce.
Grade 11 and 12 students from the Lake City Secondary School Grow Operators group had their own booth at Seedling Saturday where they sold fruit and flowers with funds going towards bursaries for grads.
