The fire danger rating is high in Kelowna following an early season heat wave.

The early season heat wave is expected to end tonight, June 11.

Kelowna and five other Okanagan cities broke heat records on June 9.

Kelowna saw two grass fires spark with the heat wave. The first sparked Monday at Eldorado Ranch along Old Vernon Road. Crews has the blaze out within 10 minutes of arrival, but stayed on site for several hours dealing with hot spots.

The second fire impacted traffic on Highway 33 in Black Mountain Tuesday evening. The fire was quickly extinguished and the highway reopened just before 9 p.m.

Although temperatures are expected to drop down, lightning is in the forecast for areas of the Okanagan on Thursday. Dry conditions and lightning create the perfect storm for wildfires.
