The annual CMHA Ride Don't Hide Vernon event took place at Coldstream's Creekside Park on Sunday, June 8.

The average cost of a child to access mental health services is approximately $330.

Nine-year-old Tyson Lewis and his family wanted to raise enough for two children, and they got close during the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Vernon's Ride Don't Hide fundraiser.

The young man was the top fundraiser, announced at Sunday's event at Coldstream's Creekside Park.

"Last year, I think I only made like a $100, so I wanted to beat that this year," said Lewis, who raised $610. "It feels pretty cool.

"I plan on doing it again next year too."

Despite the hot weather, nearly 100 cyclists roared through the streets of Coldstream, riding for mental health June 8.

Vicki Proulx, CMHA Vernon's communication manager, said that close to $60,000 in donations was raised.

"The donation page will stay open for a few more days, so there is still time," she told The Morning Star.

Attendees biked either a 2.6, eight, 17 or 32 kilometre loop, and were rewarded with burgers from A&W afterwards, along with lawn games.
