Smoke and flames may be visible from the Chimney and Felker Lake communities near Williams Lake between Thursday, April 3 to April 18 as prescribed burns get underway.
Access to recreation sites will be restricted during the burning and signage will be posted along Chimney Lake Road. Crews will use hand torches on up to nine hectares of land to remove grass and other ground fuels which pose a risk of wildfire.
Smoke and flames may also be visible to motorists along Chimney Lake Road, with smoke remaining visible for up to 48 hours after ignition.
Burning will only take place if conditions allow for it, and crews will be there to control and closely monitor the fire.
To minimize health impacts from wildfire and prescribed burn smoke reduce the amount of time you spend outdoors and the intensity of outdoor activities.
You can learn more about prescribed burning online at prescribedfire.ca and visit the BC Wildfire Map for current information on wildfire activity, prohibitions, restrictions, road closures and air-quality advisories.
