A series of prescribed burns are planned near the community of Tŝideldel, beginning as early as Wednesday, April 2.
The BC Wildfire Service noted in a news bulletin it is working with the community on the burning of approximately 50 hectares, separated into four parcels on both sides of Highway 20.
The burning will only happen if weather and site conditions are suitable and could continue until April 18.
BCWS will also be working with Tsilhqot’in Nation communities, Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, BC Parks, Cariboo Chilcotin Regional District and BC Hydro doing series of prescribed burns between Hanceville and Chilanko Forks, also along Highway 20.
These burns will cover about 35 hectares and could start as early as Thursday, April 3.
Smoke and flames will be visible from Riske Creek, Tl'esqox, Tsi Del Del, Yunesit’in, T’letinqox, Alexis Creek, Highway 20 and surrounding areas.
Crews will ignite ground fuels with hand torches and will control and closely monitor fire activity.
While burning is underway, traffic control will be on-site to ensure the safety of public and firefighters, short delays may occur.
Objectives of these prescribed burns are to reduce wildfire risk and help native plants grow, plus limit the spread of invasive species.
