A prescribed burn is planned on Fox Mountain in Williams Lake beginning as early as Thursday, April 24.
BC Wildfire Service will be partnering with Williams Lake First Nation and the Williams Lake Fire Department for the burn, west of Mason Road on the north side of Fox Mountain Drive.
It is anticipated the burn will cover up to nine hectares, with smoke visible by residents on Fox Mountain and in Williams Lake.
Burning will only proceed if the weather conditions are appropriate and good for venting so the smoke can clear quickly.
Throughout April several prescribed burns have taken place throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre to reduce the risk of wildfires.
BC Wildfire noted while burns will be extinguished by the end of the day, smoke from within the perimeter may remain visible up to 72 hours after ignition.
To monitor conditions in the evening, firefighters will remain on-site.
The project could continue to Friday, May 2.
