A driver’s high-speed ride came to an abrupt end in Oak Bay on Saturday.

Around 12:30 a.m. on May 31, Oak Bay police (OBPD) observed a vehicle travelling 97 km/h – 47 km/h over the speed limit – near the 2700-block Foul Bay Road. Officers conducted a traffic stop, where the 21-year-old driver exhibited signs of alcohol impairment. A roadside breath test resulted in a fail reading, and the driver was issued a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition. The vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

OBPD responded to 85 other calls for service last week, including one for an alleged case of mischief.

Just before 5 p.m. on May 29, police received a report of an electric scooter stolen from the 2100-block of Cadboro Bay Road. The grey, three-speed Punk Rider Pro, valued at approximately $1,900, is believed to have been taken between 8:50 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. the same day.

At approximately 5:40 p.m. on May 31, police responded to a report of mischief in the 2100-block of Haultain Street. There, a car's rear window had been smashed – an incident OBPD thinks happened sometime during the evening of May 30 or morning of May 31. No entry was made into the vehicle, and nothing was reported stolen.

OBPD is asking those with information regarding these crimes to contact the police department at 250-592-2424 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
