For the last 25 years the Cowichan Family Life Association ran an annual fundraising Garden Tour event but the pending closure of the CFLA's doors this summer meant another organization in the region would need to step up.
The Rotary Club has taken on the challenge and will host the first annual Garden Tour fundraiser on their watch on Sunday, June 1.
In its previous format, the popular fundraiser attracted hundreds of attendees who enjoyed visiting some of the most spectacular gardens in the Cowichan Valley. Rotary is hoping for more of the same.
“We are honoured that six local garden owners have generously opened their gardens for the public tour this year,” said Duncan Rotary president Karen Thorington. “From rhodos to roses and rare flowers and trees”, the tour is a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together to appreciate the beauty of nature while raising funds for many local community projects to assist local not-for-profit organizations.
Tickets are $25 each and come with a map of the garden locations. They are available for sale at the Duncan Buckerfield’s Supply Store and Volume One Bookstore, The Third Addition Gifts & Toys in Mill Bay, and Valley Roots Farm Market Garden Centre, Sandpiper Gardens & Glass in Chemainus.
For many years, the Rotary Club of Duncan has been supporting organizations throughout the community, some of which include: Cowichan Violence Against Women, the Sportsplex, Nourish Cowichan, Cowichan Therapeutic Riding, Cowichan Valley Youth Services, the Clements Centre and more.
The group's lunch meetings are held on the first, second and fourth Mondays of the month, with a social gathering on the third Monday evening of each month.
