A new city-owned parking lot is coming to downtown Parksville, following a recent decision by Parksville city council.
The project's rough estimate is $110,000, according to director of finance Jedha Holmes.
“This is an approximation based on the original plan around the lot that was going to be next to the fire hall,” Holmes said during council's Nov. 18 meeting.
The location is to be determined, she added. Once that has been identified, staff will report back to council with a design and costs.
The Parksville Downtown Business Association raised the idea with the city, and has become concerned about the loss of parking on lots as infill development proceeds downtown
Recommended funding options included the off-street parking reserve. Council could also consider a pay parking option.
As for the number of spots, there is "nothing definite at this time", according to Deb Tardiff, manager of communications for the City of Parksville.
Council voted unanimously to approve the project in principal and include it in the financial plan.
