Coun. Jazmyn Lyons praised the work of the Downtown Williams Lake Clean Team at the regular city council meeting on Sept. 24.

Lyons provided an update on the progress of the team, which Sherry Yonkman, Downtown Williams Lake executive director has been leading since late August of this year.

The team has been working four days a week for three hours a day in the downtown cleaning up waste.

"It has been overwhelmingly positive," said Lyons, reading from notes provided to her by Yonkman.

Yonkman reported the team have so far picked up 38 bags of trash, 42 needles, and 35 piles of feces.

The team has been well-received by the public and especially businesses in the downtown.

"People have been fantastic and come out to thank the team for their work," reported Lyons on behalf of Yonkman.

The workers have been invited into businesses for beverages and thanked by people driving by.

Some of the worst areas for garbage have reportedly been the library parking lot and Spirit Square.
