Williams Lake city council recognized the work of Dave Dickson, director of emergency support service, at their regular meeting on March 4, 2025.

The city was congratulating Dickson on receiving the Canadian Emergency Management Exemplary Service Award for Outstanding Contribution to Emergency Management in Ottawa recently.

Dickson works as a contractor for the city to help provide emergency support services in the city and for the Cariboo Regional District.

"If he's not working for money, he's volunteering," said Mayor Surinderpal Rathor.

"I cannot think of a more deserving person for this award," he said.

"Dave's tireless dedication to emergency support services working with local and regional partners and supporting those in need is an inspiration, I have learned lots from Mr. Dickson," said Rathor, who called Dickson a long time friend. Rathor said he had worked with Dickson on a number of programs including Williams Lake Community Policing and Operation Red Nose.

Rathor called Dickson a "cornerstone" of local emergency support services.

"The world is a better place because of people like Dave," he said, noting the city being recognized as one of the top locations in Canada for retirement is attributable to the work of volunteers like Dickson.

"We are so proud to have Dave as a valued member our city of Williams Lake team."

Mayor and council presented Dickson with a letter of congratulations and posed for a photo to honour Dickson's receipt of the award.
