All four candidates for the upcoming SD 27 board of education by-election are based in Williams Lake.

Four names are in the race to take over the vacant seat at School District 27’s board of education table for the remainder of the board's term.

All four candidates are based in Williams Lake where the district office is located, westward from the district area they will represent if elected. Electoral Area 4, which was represented by Ciel Patenaude before she resigned in November, falls in CRD Areas F and D and includes addresses in Horsefly and Likely.

Melissa Coates, a mother who has been calling for change in the way violence and bullying is addressed in the district, is among the candidates announced on Tuesday, Feb. 4 on the district’s website. Other names expected to be on the ballot include Lennard Supernault of Williams Lake First Nation, Connor Ikoma and Neal Matoga.

Nominations were due Friday, Jan. 31 and general voting day will be on March 8, with advanced voting dates yet to be determined.

The Tribune is pursuing interviews with each candidate.
