A workshop has been scheduled in Penticton ahead of the community's second city council by-election in 2025.
Anyone interested in running in the Aug. 23 by-election is invited to attend a pre-candidate workshop event in council chambers at Penticton City Hall on June 18, at 5 p.m.
"This is an opportunity for interested candidates to experience what it might be like to sit at the council table while learning more about the role of an elected official and asking city staff questions," a press release from the city reads.
No registration is required for the event.
A by-election was prompted for this summer after former councillor Helena Konanz became MP for Similkameen—South Okanagan—West Kootenay in April.
It will mark the community's second city council by-election this year.
Amelia Boutlbee vacated her seat as a local councillor after being elected MLA for Penticton-Summerland last fall. That triggered an April 5 by-election, which was won by Jason Reynen.
Penticton residents will head to the polls again in 2026 when a general municipal election takes place in October.
