Temperatures are expected to stay in the 30s across the Okanagan on Wednesday, June 11.
Environment Canada has prompted a special weather statement for the fifth day in a row, calling the climate an "early season heat event."
"A ridge of high pressure continues to bring high temperatures to the region," stated Environment Canada. "Daytime high temperatures in the mid to upper-30's and overnight lows overnight lows in the mid teens are expected."
The government weather agency reminds residents to beat the heat with the following tips:
- Keep your house cool;
- Block the sun by closing curtains or blinds;
- Watch for the effects of heat illness: heavy sweating, rash, cramps, fainting, high body temperature and the worsening of some health conditions;
- Fans alone cannot effectively lower core body temperature, especially for older adults;
- Use fans to pull in cooler air from outdoors, but if you or someone you care for is experiencing symptoms of heat illness, find a cooler space.
Temperatures are expected to cool as the week goes on. There is a 40 per cent chance of rain across the majority of the region starting Wednesday night, and a 60 per cent chance of rain on Thursday with a risk of a thunderstorm and winds ranging from 30 km/h to 50 km/h.
