Single family home burns down in Lac La Hache

The fire claimed one home but did not spread to neighbouring properties

A single-family home was claimed by a fire in Lac La Hache on Saturday, Jan. 11

Cariboo Regional Director (CRD) regional fire chief Roger Hollander said that the Lac La Hache Volunteer Fire Department responded to the blaze which was reported around 1 p.m. On arrival at the residence, located on the 300 block of Fisher Road, they observed a single-family house fully involved in fire and called the 108 Mile Ranch Volunteer Fire Department and the Forest Grove Volunteer Fire Department for assistance in extinguishing the blaze. Hollander said this was done to protect neighbouring homes and keep the fire from spreading.

Hollander adds that one occupant of the home did self-evacuate and was not injured in the incident. This individual later received support from South Cariboo Emergency Support Service volunteers.

While the home was lost in the fire, Hollander said firefighters were successful in preventing the fire from spreading to neighbouring properties. Firefighters were on the scene for about five hours. During this time smoke could be seen from several parts of Lac La Hache.

Hollander stated that the cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
