Fiddelium is prepping for a performance at the Port Theatre this week.
The Canadian Folk Music Award-winning youth ensemble group based in Nanaimo will be part of a concert at the downtown Nanaimo venue on Sunday, June 8, which will feature contemporary and traditional folk music from all over the world and more than 80 musicians, a press release stated. Concertgoers can expect "an evening full of youthful spirit and musical diversity, along with a powerful reminder of the rich arts scene that is thriving right here in Nanaimo."
Fiddelium's works have Canadian, American, Spanish, Irish, Scottish and Scandinavian influences affording music lovers "a vibrant and thrilling musical experience," noted the press release, and the performance will also serve as the official launch of the ensemble's fourth full-length album Tenuto.
Alexandra Lee, cellist and Vancouver Island Symphony member, together with her 20-piece cello choir, will be a featured guest. Also taking the stage will be the Nanaimo Fiddle Society Folk Band, with the violin, viola, cello, guitar, mandolin and ukulele, and Nanaimo Suzuki Strings, featuring violin, viola and cello students aged three years and older.
