A quick response to a grass fire on Anderson Road in Williams Lake Wednesday, Aug. 14 stopped the fire from spreading.

"It certainly could have been a problem if it wasn't for a couple of very helpful and prepared bystanders," said Williams Lake Fire Department (WLFD) Chief Evan Dean.

The call came in at 5:09 p.m. and witnesses who saw the fire driving by said the flames were pretty high.

Responding, the WLFD arrived with two apparatus, two command vehicles and 10 firefighters and remained on scene for about 30 minutes.

When asked about the cause, Dean said he was not sure.

"A couple of bystanders were already working the fire when I arrived," he said. "They said they didn't see anyone or anything in the area that would have caused it."

Dean confirmed there were no values lost and only some grass and bottoms of trees were burned.
